Ukrainian?

I am in Ukraine right now. Many times people have come to me speaking Ukranian. I answer in English. One gentleman apologized and said, "I'm sorry. I thought you were Ukranian. You look Ukranian." Really? Ukranian? That's a new one for me. At the same event one individual from England thought I was from there even after we had been speaking for a few minutes, in spite of my very American accent. Does this happen to others?
