After moving to the high country of North Carolina one of the first things I noticed was the lack of liquor stores. I don't drink, but there is a noticeable lack of liquor dealers. I discovered later that a building labeled simply "ABC" is the liquor store. It looks like it could be an Elks Lodge or something from the outside. You wouldn't suspect they sell liquor. Liquor by the glass was not available in restaurants. This fact is blamed for the conspicuous lack of restaurant selection in this town. Until now...
The talk of the town this week is that voters have approved a drink by the glass referendum. The hope is that this would improve dining options.
Guess what else it is bringing to town - strip clubs. We didn't have one before, but now that the referendum has passed, they want to open one up.
This is what Western cultures call "progress." Well, Boone is about to get progressive! My secret wish has nothing to do with liquor stores or strip clubs - could we please get a decent book store, or maybe a Target?!
