Unplugged
I will be traveling in Myanmar until the end of the month with little to no internet access...that means this blog will have a brief interruption during my absence. I will write again when I return. I've spent the last week in Thailand and Cambodia and have lots of stories and pictures to share. One of my colleagues ate a grilled roach in Cambodia. I have a video of it...I hope I can figure out the technology to share the video on my blog.

Interesting International Facts: ad campaign
In Thailand in the 1980's and 1990's they had a public campaign where they were asking men to get a vasectomy in exchange for a hot dog. One of the guys I am traveling with lived in Bangkok at the time. He said the males would ask each other, "have you got your dog yet?"

Singular or plural?
I am currently in Siem Reap, Cambodia. On this trip I played tourist at the beautiful Angkor Wat. That is quite a treat because I so rarely get to see the tourist attractions in the places I visit. I am usually too busy working. On this trip I am doing staff training at their annual staff retreat. Since it is a retreat there was an excursion planned and I got to tag along. Angkor Wat was one of the original wonders of the world...it is pretty wonderful.
While on this trip I was asked if I am singular or plural. What's that? Single or married. I love things like this. They make travel fun! I'm sure if I was learning a language I would make worse
mistakes.

Quotable Quotes
I've become increasingly concerned about the state of our union (not my marriage, but the country I live in). I see a decline in values, an increase in corruption (just look at the number of political appointees and candidates who had to withdrawal recently due to improper conduct), an embrace of "group think" where it is easier to go with the flow than to stand for anything that might be different, and a vulnerability to deception (we believe just about everything we read on the Internet or hear on the news). Then I read this...
Am I just being paranoid, or is America working it's way in to irrelevancy?
The safest road to hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.

Senior Murphy
There is a candy maker in my hometown, Santa Fe. The name of the company is Senior Murphy. The image they use is of a cartoon face wearing a sombrero...oh, their candy is good! If I am walking around the plaza in downtown Santa Fe one of my favorite things to do is get a caramel apple from Senior Murphy. They also have excellent chocolates and unique brittles. They even have some of their products seasoned with green chili (the Hatch variety) because they know their local customer base loves these chili's!
Each year at Christmas my Aunt Carmen sends an assorted box of Senior Murphy candy...what a treat!
I tried to look up the company online so I could give you a link...they don't even have a website. So, this is something you can only enjoy in New Mexico.
Have you ever been there? Or is there something unique in your hometown that you can't get anywhere else?
