The BIG 3-0!

Kenyon turned thirty. We celebrated for a week! It started with dinner and a party with the Jones family. I got on an airplane the day of his actual birthday, but I left him some presents, a card and a decorated cookie that said "Happy Birthday." When I got back we celebrated again. I took him to Dave and Buster's - a large arcade. We had lunch, then played games. My favorite was the interactive boxing game. You put on gloves, stand on a pad and fight, the game registers your movements. I played it three times. I also always love the car racing games and skee-ball. We had a lot of fun and ended the date with an ice cream. Kenyon got the biggest waffle cone I'd ever seen - and he ate it all!

We leave to India in a few days. I will write again when we return.

Back from North Carolina

I just returned from my job interview in North Carolina. The scenery was amazing! My friend Angela had visited there the week before I arrived and called it "breathtaking." I'd agree with that. If you like mountains, it doesn't get much prettier. I happen to really like mountains. I could not get over the number of trees. I think Kansas is pretty in the fall, imagine the hills of North Carolina. Wow!

I did as well as I could on the interview and have no regrets. If they offer me the job (which I think they might) I would take it in a heartbeat. Yesterday I did some touring with my newly adopted Uncle John (former Chancellor of ASU and my personal tour guide for the visit - thanks to mom, dad and grandma Jones), then I headed back to Charlotte to fly home. I was overwhelmed with the thought that I leave to India for two weeks in a few days and I may be moving half-way across the United States immediately when I return. Yikes! There are so many details to work out...selling my place, packing up, getting from here to there, wrapping up jobs and school. What a crazy adventure?!

They interview the last candidate for the job August 1. I should hear something after that date (even though I will be out of the country at the time - ahhh, the wonders of email!). I'll keep you posted.

Oceans of Fun

This weekend one of the girls from my group, Kara, and I went to Oceans of Fun. It's a water park next to Worlds of Fun - the local amusement park. We had a great time floating on our rafts in the wave pool and lazy river. We tried to get in to the adult only swimming pool. They let Kara in no problem. Then the lady at the front gave me a once over and said, "do you have your I.D.?" No, I'm wearing a swimsuit, lady. I'm dripping wet. Where do you think I would be keeping my I.D.? I told her it was safely tucked away in our locker. She wouldn't let me in. She wouldn't believe I was old enough (over 21). We didn't go back to prove it, it just wasn't worth all the effort. But, I was actually quite honored that I was denied entrance to the adult only swimming area. I wonder if she would have changed her mind if I'd pointed out all the gray hairs that are starting to come in? That certainly proves I'm over the age limit!

Flying East

Well...I thought the phone interview went well. They told me they were interviewing a few other candidates for the job. I wondered how long it would be before I heard from them again. I was hoping it wouldn't be a letter in the mail stating they chose someone else. I didn't have to wait long - they called me today. They want to fly me out for two days the end of July for a formal interview. Hallelujah! I can't wait! How am I possibly going to focus on school work for the next couple weeks?!

Personality DNA: Genuine Leader

I took a personality test online. The test says I'm a "genuine leader."

Years ago I learned the leader part - I'd been fighting it for years. It came up on a personality test and I decided to ask people what they thought. My mom's response was, "you didn't know that about yourself? How could you not know that about yourself?" I think I just preferred to avoid the responsibility until then. Immediately after that test I took on the Campaign of Kindness and haven't shyed away from a productive leadership opportunity since.

The test also says I'm an extrovert, with high confidence and highly masculine traits. If you know anything about me, you already knew that!
